GENERAL RULES
SETTINGS
- One of out main goals is to establish a liberal and creative place from fans... For fans. We wish to have minimum rules and maximum fun for all.
Yet please do not take this as an open invitation to (OOC-wise) behave like a lunatic. We have minimum rules for now, because we have a decent level of trust into our fellow players' behaviour, so please do not prove us wrong... - If a rule is needed we will create it together and where none is needed we can leave it wide open to start with.
- It is one thing how your OCs behave in-character, but be sure there will be zero tolerance for OOC-bullying.
If you have a problem with a fellow player, talk to him/her.
If you can not solve the problem by your own, ask one of the Creators (Admins) for help.
If you you think even this won't help, try to peacefully avoid the player. BUT there is no excuse for jibes and/or rage-postings. - Another no-go is to offend other members because of the choice of their character, their/their character's [political, religious, sexual and/or interest-wise] preferences.
If your character hates another character - Fine, but stay professional and keep it IC!
You do not have to like every player and/or every character, bur you surely need to respect them. - You actually are responsible for the things you write and the links you share. Remember that.
We will show zero tolerance for any sort of content that features real-life racist propaganda, child-pornography as well as glorification of torture, rape and animal abuse.
- Mature topics are not ruled out completely. The Mass Effect games contain a certain level of these and it's part of the flavour. A basic guideline for writing can be PG-13. Love is a great thing, but be reasonable about it. No overly descriptive violence or gore either.
However, if you feel particularly creative about smut or other NSFW topics, yourre invited to contact any of the Creators about how to handle it.

SETTINGS
- We have a 'default universe' setting, which is post ME3 and has an 'Optimum Outcome', meaning, all planets are well and all species still (co-)exist. This is essentially to give everyone the chance to play all sorts of characters in an easy and uncomplicated environment.
- Yet every single RP-thread can play in an alternate timeline or even in another era. This will be marked in the thread's description and/or further details will be given in the opening post, so be sure to read, before blindly participating roleplays.
- The [default present] is an option (but not mandatory) when you don't have any other plans. Many characters have this as their environment so it can be a good setup for finding RP partners among existing characters.

CHARACTER CREATION
- This forum is an OC-only roleplay-project set in the Mass Effect universe. While we actually value all sorts of creative character-concepts and writing ideas, please stay within the ME-universe.
(Meaning: Please do not register as any main characters from the ME series like Shepard, Wrex, Tali etc. or characters from other universes, such as Jedi, Starfleet officers etc.) - You are free to chose from any existing Mass Effect species and can play whatever post, rank, marital status or profession you wish. Yet please try to stay within the limits of common sense.
This does not mean that you are not allowed to play unique and special character - Hell no! We actually dig creativity! - BUT don't forget to explain your character/s in a way they make sense:
- What makes them special?
- What made them become who they are?
- How did being special affect their life?... - We do not have character approval. You do not even have to post a character-biography if you do not wish.
Yet it is always useful to flesh out your character - Apart from that, your fellow players will be interested in you and your OC as well. - If you are unsure how to join the roleplay after registering, always feel free to ask. Either in the shoutbox, the 'Searching for Posting Partners"-Thread or even via PM.
SOME USEFUL TIPS:
- Do not try to come up with character you think will be most impressive to others. Do whatever YOU like and feel most comfortable with, since you're about to use it.
- The Mass Effect-Universe is not just Human Mercs and Turian C-Sec officers. There is a wide range of species and infinite ways to let them live their lives. Feel free to explore and do not be afraid to test out new things if you like.
- If you like to play someone's best friend/mate/whatever, that's fine.
But PLEASE ask the players of the characters you'd like to refer to for permission first. - Try to keep things in balance: No one can have strengths and advantages only.
We know it is a game, but try to be a bit realistic on this, because even the ME-Universe is not all filled up with super heroes incapable of error.

PLAYING
- Anyone can start a thread as well as joining an (open) one if they like.
Be sure that if you make a thread that takes place in an alternate era or time line, that you mark that in your thread-title as well as - at best - giving a short description about the most important facts of your 'alternate universe' in your opening-post. - It is important to mark your RP either as open for anyone to join (Open) or closed, in case you are working on something specific with someone and do not want to be "disturbed" by suddenly appearing characters that might spoil your plans. (Closed)
- After you posted your RP-thread, hopefully a bunch of other people will join.
Yet sometimes it might take some time, for - remember - not all of us are online every day, and some do not even check their forums regularly. So if you do not get an answer to a starter, that does not have to mean, that no one likes your story or characters. More likely no one might have seen it yet, or other members lacking the time/chance to join.
Being patient is always useful. So is Communication: You can also - at any time - directly invite people to join your personal RP, as well as join open RPs of others.
SOME USEFUL TERMS:
- OC: Original Character
(A character you came up with all by your own. It might be 'inspired' by others, but definitely should have a decent individuality.) - IC: In-character
(The things happening within the roleplay-universe.) - OOC: Out Of Character
(Whatever you and your fellow players are discussing and/or doing in real life.) - AU: Alternate Universe
- NPC: Non-player character.
(Those supporting guys standing in the background and looking nice. Always feel free to write NPCs into your postings if you wish to add some extra spice to your portrayed environment.) - Posting Partner:
(The person/s who are participating one or more RP-Threads with you.) - Powerplay: An act where one single RP-character starts to become an overly-important almighty hero.
(Just... Avoid this please... This is ridiculous!) - NSFW: Not Safe For Work
(Something that contains explicit/mature content.)
