It was clear Cali did not enjoy the tunnel one bit. Every foreign noise caused her to flinch and point her shotgun wherever it came from. It was almost as if her old military training was kicking in. Something about the dark tunnels made her think back, where to though she didn't quite know.
As the darkness grew, she found it harder to see, following Tuni'Za by the sound of her steps. The smell didn't help, causing her to lift up her shirt to cover her face.
"Spirits, how can you stand this place?" She asked, rather rhetorically. She sat down on the suggested boulder and punched in a few numbers on the briefcase before opening it. Cali activated the flashlight app on her omni-tool and shined it on the mods. Both appeared to be in pristine condition and military grade. "Tools from my employer. They'd be thrown away anyways." She explained with a shrug.

During the walk, Tuni’Za had a little fear the turian would be trigger happy and shoot her in the back. She fell back a little so she was walking next to her. “Just stay chill.” She said with an amused undertone. “Welcome to Omega, behind the scenes edition.”
~~~
“I wear a suit, remember? Has to be worth something.” the quarian was answering the question honestly. An in reality, she couldn’t imagine otherwise, she only knew the brief moments inside the sterile decon cleanrooms without her mask. Every quarian tried to keep these to a minimum of course, especially if they didn’t have the luxury of having a personal one to their disposal at their work place, like Tuni’Za.
She took the mods and nodded appreciatively. “Looks nice!” She wondered how the turian would get her hands on something like this and then sell it on Omega. But on Omega you learned to not ask such things. She opened a pouch on her belt and took out a small multitool and began to open the case of her gun.
Soon a few old parts were arranged neatly on a rockshelf in front of them and the new parts were assemebled. The quarian played with the gun, posing, exercising quickdraws. “Mhm, okay….” She mumbled. “Let’s put it to the test.”
She put a clip in and readied the gun at a distant wall, firing a few short bursts. “Hmmmm. I'll give you 2500 for this.” She asked, while studying the gun and the marks it had left in the rock.
Cali smirked and crossed her arms in front of her. "Ehh... 2750, and you got a deal." She said, leaning back on a relatively straight wall.
"Speaking of deals, how much is a starship on Omega? Like, a small cruiser?" She asked, scratching under her chin and resetting the shotgun back to its holster on her back.
Tuni’Za turned the gun in her hand, weighing it again. The prize was okay and she could afford it. She was a bit confused by the very sudden change of topics and the question about starships. Uh, how would she know anything about that, a stereotype about quarians maybe?
But before she could answer, there was a sudden commotion at several entries and Tuni’Za rolled her eyes when she heard the screeching vorcha voices. “AAAAaaaaaRRGH!!. You give Skrott all your stuff! CHhcccchhhh! Skrott takes your guns and your pants! AaarraraAAAffRRRRgg! Skrott territory, and me no likes you!”
Three vorcha were blocking three tunnels, armed with a variety of guns, the one who obviously was Skrott, was holding a shotgun and came a bit closer, while his two pals nodded and hissed in appreciation but kept a safe distance.
Tuni’Za rolled her eyes behind the opaque visor.
Calistaris, after being caught off guard, wanted to jump to her gun and begin a firefight in a small space, but Tuni'Za's more relaxed reaction told her she shouldn't start shooting everywhere.
Releasing her tension, she slowly crossed her arms and looked at the vorcha that was barking orders. "And if I don't want to?" She asked, looking at the two other vorcha who were standing off to the side.
“AAAArrrGGhhhGGGGG!! Skratt kills you and takes your things anyway!” The vorcha didn’t waste any more time and released a series of shots from his shotgun in their general direction. “RaaaahAAAAGhhhhchhh!”
Tuni’Za had seen that coming and after rolling her eyed, with a jump had been rolling herself to the side into a crouched position, shooting a burst at the oncoming vorcha. A few bullets hit, most missed high. Of couse you didn’t stop a vorcha with that but it was enough to distract and shake him.
As the others readied their guns and began to shoot and screetch around randomly, not hitting much. The quarian kept moving towards some trash heap that provided at least a bit of cover and opened her omnitool.
“I could have told you he’d react like that... Welcome to Omega.” She mumbled at Cali’s initial reaction. Now it was clear why the cab didn’t want to drive down here. Random vorcha were the worst.
Cali widened her eyes as the Vorcha began blasting away. She followed Tuni'Za's roll, having to practically lie down. Her hands darted behind her and snatched her own shotgun out and at the ready. "I'm sorry, I didn't see you doing anything to stop them!" She exclaimed, popping in a clip.
She let out a small sigh, and thought about the situation she was in. "... Okay, if you can take down one of the goons, I could probably take down Skrott and the other one. Has to be quick though." She said, focusing biotic energy into her left hand.
„At least I didn’t provoke them any further.“ Tuni’Za shot back. While ducking into cover to avoid a random blast over their heads. Vorcha were terrible shots often and that was a good thing.
When Skrott reloaded, she directed her Omnitool at him around the trash heap, activating the flame thrower. It was a nifty tool that used a highly energized plasma beam to incinerate dust and even gas along its trajectory. At this proximity, it would even cause the vorcha skin to ignite on its own.
The vorcha screamed horribly and flailed around, trying to get away from about the only thing they hated: fire. “They usually retract when their leader is down…” she tried to encourage Cali to concentrate on the nearest, Skrott.
Cali watched as the stream of plasma shot out to the vorcha, then looked back the quarian. Some kind of machinist for certain She thought to herself, nodding at the tip.
Cali poked her head out from cover, focused her biotics at Skrott, and pulled him in closer to the beam. As a counter measure for any of the vorcha that wanted to try and shoot at her, she quickly emptied her shot gun in their general direction, but the recoil made it impossible to aim accurately with one hand.
"Watch as your leader burns, you damned creatures!" She shouted, forcing Skrott into the direct line of the flame. It didn't take long for the brave but stupid vorcha to practically become a walking pile of ash.
The only problem with the flame thrower was the recharge time, it wasn't suitable for prolonged confrontation but that never was Tnui'Za's intention anyway, fry the attacker and then run. In this case she didn't think about running however, it was a controlled situation with Cali by her side, especially when the turian whipped out her biotics!
Indeed, the vorcha wannabe-gangster got his deal. It wasn't pretty, not even for Omega standards but those pesty rats called for it every single time. And she had seen what happened if they got you first so the quarian didn't flinch and started to fire short bursts at the retreating goons.
"RrrararraghAAAAAfgh!!!" She couldn't make out what they were calling or if it was speech at all but eventually they were gone in the tunnels. The quarian immediately stuffed her toolset back into the pouch and grabbed her old replaced parts from the Shuriken. "Let's get out of here before tehy get back with friends." she ushered the turian and headed for the tunny they had come in. "That test was not intended like that...." she said, "It's a deal, the gun feels good."
Cali let out a few pants before smiling unexpectedly happily. "That was... That was kinda fun..." She said, looking over at Tuni'Za. "I haven't killed someone like that in a while!" She explained, looking a bit too excited.
She shook her head and nodded. "Sorry, right, the deal. 2750, right?" She confirmed, nodding a moment after. "Right, let's make the transfer then." She said, taking out her credit chit and opening up her omni-tool. "... Oh yeah, how much was a cruiser again?"
If the quarian was surprised about Cali’s ‘killing someone’ comment, it didn't show. Maybe there was a reason her employer had sent her to Omega to do … whatever. Tuni’Za shrugged. “Sometimes they test their limits. But most of the time the wannabe’s are weeded out pretty soon on Omega.”
She also opened her omnitool and made the transfer. How much could she get get for the ols spares a couple hundred? Maybe she should keep them as backup though. Quarians could have atendency to horde spare and junk when they had the opportunity. Old habits.
“A whole cruiser? I really have no idea, that's a bit beyond my usual scale. You could have obtained parts when the Cerberus junk was still floating around but that has been looted long ago. I suppose it depends widely on what type, age and so on. On F and G levels are many of the used ship dealers, maybe you should go browse their offers. A cruise would probably be pretty rare though.”
With her omni the quarian had called a cab which now dropped beside them and opened its doors.
"Eh, I'm certain I can put something together. Nice little project." She said, gesturing for Tuni'Za to enter before her. After the Quarian did enter, Cali followed in behind.
"Actually now that I think about it, I may know a gal who could put it all together..." She thought aloud, mostly to herself.
"Sorry, where are you going?" She asked, ready to punch in the coordinates.
Tuni’Za laughed in surprise. “I have never heard someone calling a cruiser a nice little project. Who exactly are you working for, are you putting together a big scale pirating effort? I’d keep a low profile, ‘cause showing up from nowhere looking into purchasing big ass warships might raise a fuss or two and put you on some maps.” Actually, what sources did she have to handle this kind of thing?
You can drop me off somewhere in Gozu.”
Cali nodded and punched in the Gozu district hub. She leaned back and thought about the question for a while. It was probably rhetorical, but all the same.
"Eh, we're probably only going to see each other for this one time, so I see no harm in telling you." She said, crossing her arms and looking out the window. "I'm a wet worker for the Shadow Broker." She admitted rather bluntly.
"Maybe a frigate instead, a bit smaller..." She whispered, again mostly to herself.
