Looking over to check the treadmill again, glad to see she was just about done, Druss casually let slip a comment without putting much thought into it. "*hssk* I really hope you're not suggesting I go into the escort business, heh . . . *hssk* Wow, I have been living near aliens way too much now."
The whirring down of the treadmill could be heard soon after, the short volus raising her hands in another little victory celebration, stepping off after.

“Only if you really want to,” Daia chuckled. “It’s not as obviously tough as security, but you have to have the right approach, the mindset.” She eyed Druss’s victory moves with fond amusement.
“Where were you before here?” she asked. “The Protectorate, or...?”

Rummaging through her bag for something to drink, eventually getting some volus version of tupari, she attached the can to the suit's mouth port, her speech somewhat distorted by the can attached to her 'face' "*hssk* Yup. Was there for about six years, left to see the galaxy, and some uhh, other things."

“Uh-huh,” Daia nodded, appearing interested. “How’d you get into security work? Hierarchy service to start with?”

"*hssk* Yup. Then awhile on the citadel guarding a car dealership that- was shot up at one point, thankfully I wasn't there that day." Adding abit of extra to her story, while it was true she wasn't there, she also wasn't employed by them that day either, nor was she even on the citadel.

“Yikes,” Daia replied. “Maybe Illium will seem quiet then - at least, with all the public surveillance, there’s not much opportunity for people to just arm up and go hit a store without being tracked the whole way.” A thought struck her, and she grinned. “Come to think of it, it’s probably a good market for bodyguard duty at the moment - I remember hearing a lot of people were buying up the surplus LOKIs when the police department sold them off. That was about, oh, a year ago - their owners must be frustrated enough to go back to living guards by now.”

"*hssk* So the mechs aren't any good? Haven't seen many in action. *hssk* But that's probably a good thing here right? A lot of not-violent crimes?" Taking the can off her face with a pressurized 'pop' sound, Druss idly streched about as well as one could in a bulky suit. "*hssk* So what's next on your workout routine?"

“So I heard,” Daia shrugged. “I know a few officers from the NAPD - clients and friends. They’ve never had much good to say of the old LOKIs. Eclipse too, for that matter, by all accounts they just bought them cheap and walked them into enemy fire to tie up resources. I’ve never been on the receiving end of any police business, thankfully, so I’d just see them standing guard here and there. One time we had a couple on set, refitted to look like geth - before the war, of course - but they had an operator running them the whole time, they never really did anything autonomously. The Takia mechs the police have rolled out recently seem a big improvement. They can hold a conversation, at least, even if it’s not a very interesting one.”
She looked around the exercise area, musing at Druss’s question, then smiled.
“Have you ever heard of tennis?” she wondered.

"*hssk* Yeah, kar-shan-clan sport? Something about a net and hitting things with bats?" Well, two out of three ain't bad.
"*hssk* Think I watched it once. It next on your list or something?" Waddling over to a nearby garbage can, Druss tossed the empty drink can in. Checking her bag's contents before slinging over her back, she awaited Daia's response.

“Earth-clan, but yeah, sounds like it,” Daia nodded. “I like to try to get a few games in when I can - I’m not good at it, but it’s fun. They have auto-trainers on the courts here but you know how it is playing against the computer, kind of dull - want to try? There’s a calibration system that’ll even us out, make allowances for height, stride length, all that.”

"*hssk* Sure! Fair warning, I have no idea how to play it." Adjusting the bag, Druss glanced around to see where they might be going, as well as judging Daia's reaction. "*hssk* Lead the way."

“That’s fine, I’m not really good at it,” Daia laughed, indicating the direction of the courts. “Well, a bit, but not what you’d call competitive at all. I always hit the ball right back, instead of away from the other player - very much ‘casual fun mode’. ‘Scuse me a minute, I need to change. You don’t have to, it’s just a thing I do.”
The locker/change/shower area was in the centre of the building, with the various courts and facilities spread out around it; large screens showed various matches and games in progress, springball, martial arts, diving, skyball from what looked to be an outdoors lawn area, as well as various advertisements and schedules. Daia selected one of the courts and reserved it.
“The game’s pretty simple,” she explained, waving Druss to a bench while she sauntered into a changing booth - she didn’t seem to feel it necessary to activate the privacy screen to close it, although the walls shielded her from view somewhat. “You have a racquet, hit the ball over the net so it lands inside my half of the court, I hit it back - onwards until one of us misses. The ball will adjust trajectory to make it a fair match. Did you ever play base koro back home? It’s not that different really.”
She reemerged wearing a dress that was white, but otherwise probably wouldn’t have passed muster at Wimbledon, being more negligee than sportswear.
“One of the big tournaments on Earth,” she explained, “actually, the big tournament, has a thing about players wearing only white - don’t worry, nobody anywhere else cares, you’re fine as you are. I just have this thing about it. Shall we go?”
She stowed her bag and workout gear in a locker, from which she retrieved a fancy-looking racquet with a gravity field in place of strings, and led the way towards the small court area, where a green-surfaced tennis court was waiting, with a VI standing by.
“My standard profile,” Daia told the VI, “plus volus, novice - singles lines only, and topspin assist. Oh, and a racquet please? Thanks.” A fabricator unit positioned by the court gate whirred away for a moment, and produced a racquet suited for the grip of a volus exo-suit, which Daia handed to Druss.

After what felt like half an hour of trying to learn the specifics of the crazed earth-clan sport, Druss signaled to Daia that she had had enough, her score having shown just how terrible a volus might be at a game of such agility. "*hssk* Next time . . . *hssk* We play a vol sport. *hssk* Yes?" Her breathing heavy from exhaustion, she walked over to the net, unsure if there was any post-game gesture, like shaking of hands or such that asari did. "*hssk* It was . . . *hssk* Fun? Not really my thing though. Gravity's kinda weird here." Looking over through a window to see two salarians in some sparring match, Druss had to pause and be both in awe and envy of how nimble aliens could be. Soon shaking the thought off, she looked back to the tennis ball, picking it up before bouncing it on the racket several times.

“That’s fair,” Daia agreed, catching her breath; Druss’s haphazard shots had had her dashing back and forth all over the court to catch them. Of course, she could safely have let most of them go to land out, but that didn’t seem like much fun. She reached out and took Druss’s hand for the customary shake - a human style one-handed up-and-down rather than the double hand clasp most asari defaulted to - and gestured toward the side of the court, where the fabricator had produced a bottle of water, and one in an exo-suit canister for Druss.
“The gravity gets everyone at first,” she agreed. “Not quite enough above standard that you really feel it, so you kind of forget about it, but enough to throw off your aim. Give it a couple of months. On the bright side, every exercise counts for more.” She chuckled in thought. “I actually had it easier, when I moved here - before that I was on Omega, you know how it is there, every hab block running at whatever gravity setting the enviro hardware will keep up without needing an overhaul. My second job there, the club I danced in was point one lighter than my apartment. That made practicing moves tough. At least here it's consistent.”

Not entirely familiar with the phrase 'you know how it is', Druss would get the wrong idea, starting to suspect Daia again, reaching out to take the offered canister. "*hssk* How do you know I've been to omega? . . ."
