Hey! So, before i get into the whole purpose of this thread, let me give you a brief overview of what I had in mind with regards to this organization. The GTI stands for the 'Global Trust Initiative' an organization of loosely connected individuals on Earth, consisting mainly of mid-to-upper tier individuals, from a variety of professions and fields ranging from Government Bureaucrats and Civil Servants, Military Officials, Politicians, Academia, and Corporate Executives. The thing is, these individuals are all based on Earth, their jobs, livelihoods, and powers all limited to the human homeworld, and as a result, they have this combined 'ideal' if you will, in preserving the safety and security of the homeworld, at any costs, and by any means necessary.
A Brief History & Ideals
In the Beginning
The Global Trust Initiative was borne out of a fear that spread throughout the upper echelons of Earth's elite during the First Contact War, a fear that was felt throughout Earth during the unexpected, and practically unannounced attack by the Turians as a result of the Alliance's attempts in activating a dormant mass relay, something that was against Citadel Council Law but humanity at the time had no idea about. This unprecedented attack, the eventual attack and occupation of Shanxi, and the 3 grueling months before the council intervened caused a sense of unbridled concern and fear throughout Earth. Especially in the higher ups of national politicians, bureaucrats, corporate executives, and military officials.
As a result of this, an unofficial pact was formed amongst these individuals who felt a certain fear, and felt a certain threat was possible from the alien forces, a pact which ensured a sense of collective security. Though more or less impractical in terms of actual political power, and practically non-existent in terms of military and economic strength, there was a sense of security that was formed between these individuals. A security that was based upon reactionary ideals, rather than the proactive or rather, survivalist ideals of Cerberus, and the xenophobic ideals of Terra Firma. The GTI's ideals were firmly set, only, on the security and peace of Earth, humanity's homeworld, and the protection of it's citizens, or at least, the security of these individuals themselves.
This security was ensured by a network of connections among these individuals, and the agreement that, under only direct and clear hostile action from an aggressor (be it Alien, or human) to Earth at it's security, they would do everything within their power, financially (corporate officials), politically (politicians, goverment beurocrats, and civil servants), militarily (Military and Police officials), and through the development of science and technology (the academia), to halt and nuetralize this threat. Be it through the corruption of government systems, the perhaps, unsanctioned utilization of military personnel and equipment, or even the use of their own funds, they would do everything in their power to halt any clear, direct, and present danger to Earth.
They did not oppose the Alliance's integration with the greater galactic community, through the council. They did not oppose the cultural diffusion that occurred as a result of it, or the economic and scientific leaps as a result of this as well. They were completely for whatever helped and whatever contributed to the advancement and the prosperity of Earth and it's people. And to be clear, they were not necessarily racists, or at least, they didn't really have tenancies for lynching aliens or Earth or anything of that sort, or proactive hate against members of other species. In fact, unless provoked or unless any clear and present danger was posed to Earth, they remained dormant, continuing their duties, and going about their business as usual.
Paranoia and Fear
However, as time progressed, certain members of the GTI started to become wary of attacks on human colonies on the Skyllian Verge, they felt threatened, fearful even, despite the Alliance's successful repulsion of Batarian forces from the Verge. And in accordance to that, a certain terrorist cell took advantage of that fear, and started contacting the GTI and it's members. Collectively agreeing on the effectiveness, and the usefulness of this organization, and in their belief that they could eventually turn the cell towards their own use, and perhaps even control it's resources and manpower for their own ends, the GTI agreed to Cerberus's terms and started funding them. As time progressed however, and as it became clear that Cerberus was certainly going down the path their reactionary aims did not agree with, the GTI threatened to pull the plug on their funding, only to have Cerberus openly threaten their members with violence. As a result, the GTI reluctantly continued funding the organization, much to their own dismay.
The Reaper War
The Reaper Wars however, changed everything. Earth was taken completely off guard, and the GTI did not have any time, or any resources to scramble fast enough to handle this gargantuan threat. As a result, despite their aims and their preparations, they were completely ineffectual during the war. Their strengths which lay in connections and active communications between members, completely null and void as the Reapers completely wrecked international and national communication systems. Cutting off GTI members, and forcing them to fend for themselves as with everyone on Earth at the time.
Post-War
After the war however, as dust was settling and as things were starting to return to normal, the surviving GTI members started to regain contact and once again reestablished whatever was left of their ailing organization. Their numbers having dwindled by as much as 70%, and their resources almost completely gone, they tried their best to maintain and rebuild what once was. And most importantly, they agreed on hiding whatever evidence remained of their interactions with the now defunct terrorist organization. Locking up the information for good inside of unmarked bank vaults and such.
However, in 2189, a certain information module was stolen from the GTI, or more specifically, from Jacob Angelaus's private vaults. Fearful of having the information leak out, and having their members exposed, possibly even at risk at criminal conviction or even death threats from people affected by Cerberus' antics, the GTI now is searching for said module, with Jacob Angelaus at the helm of this operation (mainly due to it being his fault in the first place).
Here is where you come in!
So, because of this, Jacob would need some manpower assisting him in this operation, this manpower coming mainly in the form of his trusted aides and allies, Ferem Baccath (a Batarian ex-mercenary, whom he saved after the war) being a clear example of one. Someone close and capable of gaining his trust. Or, alternatively, someone could theoretically play as a GTI-purist operative/soldier, someone sent by the GTI to oversee and help Jacob on his mission.
What I'm essentially saying is, in accordance to the up and coming 'Boogeyman' Thread, and perhaps other future threads involving this plotline, I'd like to see if there's anyone out there who're interested in playing another merc, ex-police officer, SWAT, marine, information broker, anyone who might seem to be a good fit in his mission here.
Feel free to post here for clarifications on the plot-line, or anything along those lines! Any comments on the whole history up there, or any suggestions are welcome as well!
