Arina Caenis was checking the monitor showing the arrivals. CVX5631 was delayed and the asari diplomat knew she would waste time now. But it could not be helped, the salarian diplomat she was sent to pick up was on that flight and so she had no choice as to wait. She looked around, there was a busy coming and going and here eyes fell on a small cafe. She shrugged and walked over, ordered a large cup of hot black fluid (for a steep price) and took a seat. She had a datapad with her, notes and protocol but she could also connect it with the free local news hub. So she leaned back and began reading through the latest galactic news and political commentaries....

"You could really go for a Tupari Sports Drink(R), couldn't you?" , the vending machine announced.
Sugar Sweet was thirsty and hungry and she hated hanging around a spaceport waiting for her shuttle to leave for Omega. The old rock was her terrain but sometimes you had to do business trips. Sugar hated it.
She was standing in front of the vending machine, grumbling.
"Whatever" she mumbled and pressed the button for Red Rodeo(R) flavor. The machine rumbled and she could see the container moving through the transparent front. The can tipped and... got stuck.
"Oh right, just brilliant. Fucking machine." She hit the front with her hand.
"I knew a man who went three days without a Tupari Sports Drink(R)..."
"Yeah, because he was trying to get one from you, stupid machine...." she kicked it.
"... He got hit by a shuttle!" The can didn't even move, hanging in there like a colossal joke.
"I whish you where hit by a shuttle. Argh! I don't even like Tupari!"

The young Asari had arrived at the spaceport only two hours ago, and already she had realised this place was ideal to lay low for a while. Her shuttle needed repairs and she had to wait for the parts to be assembled to her specifications, and she could just as well wait here. In fact, while the small craft would make it to Omega, she preferred waiting here. Omega was safe enough for her, still she preferred not to spend too much time there.
Walking through the crowded corridors Vanidha felt safe. There were lots of people here, and that meant she would not draw any special attention to herself. She made sure she could always feel the credit chits in her pocket, though. She always paid in cash, cash couldn't be traced. She didn't trust any other form of payment. Not that she was necessarily at risk, considering her current ID was not listed by the Asari security forces as suspicious (as far as she knew, at least) but she could never be too careful.
She heard cursing and the sounds of hands and feet banging against a mechanical object. When she stepped closer she saw what was happening. The machine was causing problems and the customer seemed to be of the rather impatient sort. She could go for one of those energy drinks herself, she figured. But right now, the machine was occupied. But, Vanidha would be poorly adapted to life 'in the wild' if she didn't have an appropriate fix for the situation.
She walked over to the woman mistreating the machine and offered, "May I?" She stretched out her hand, a blue electrical glow formed around the can inside the machine. It was jerked forward slightly, then dropped. "There you go." She smiled at the human woman, her accent in Terran standard English clearly marked her as someone not used to speaking the language, but she was doing well enough. She didn't usually learn languages of newcomer species but humans had made that much of an impact on the galaxy in the short time they've been allowed outside their home system that Vanidha considered learning English was a necessity.

Standing behind someone reading the news Preeya tilted her head as she saw a person kicking the equipment here. What was it with so many individuals not able to control their aggression? Even though being generally fascinated by the concept, Preeya usually never made attempts to give these sorts of people closer looks. Yet as she saw another person approaching her and offering some help, Preeya stopped for some seconds, her grip around her cane hardening a bit while attentively observing both women and wondering whether this might end in even more aggression now or whether the second one was able to solve this peacefully. Casual and anonymous social studies were always the best sort of studies since they happened literally anywhere and the subjects did nothing to have influences on the final observation results...

“Oh, cool, thank you. That machine was trolling me!” She had assumed the vending machines had a security against biotic manipulation. Maybe that was broke too. Or that asari was just exceptionally powerful? Sugar picked up the can and opened it. The smell was … unique.
“I’m on my way to Omega and the Shuttle is a bit late…” Judging the asari with the eye of the professional, Sugar thought she could make good dancer material. But it was obvious that this one wasn’t. Probably ex military though but nice enough to help her out!
She took a sip and her thoughts were along the lines of… why didn’t I get some Paragade. But it was high caloric and sweet at least.

"Omega... I always go there with mixed feelings", Vanidha admitted. "Be careful, that place isn't safe. Especially for a human."
As she was an honest customer when she could afford it, Vanidha placed a credit chit into the vending machine, then selected the drink that provided her the largest calorie boost, as using biotic powers meant she needed to eat much more than would otherwise be necessary.
She retrieved the drink, turning around to face the human she had just helped out - if primarily so she could get a drink herself without having to wait for security to take her into custody for vandalism.
"A lot of flights to Omega are delayed lately. Last I've heard, there was extensive damage to one of the station's docking wings, creating a substantial backlog", Vanidha explained. "That said, nobody in their right mind wants to have their ship sit around that place any longer than necessary, they rather wait somewhere safe. Pay Aria a little extra for pre-arranged docking appointment."
Vanidha looked around for a free table, she could use a few minutes off her feet. With how much time she spent in space, even though she did work out during her trips, she wasn't used to walking around in normal gravity for extended periods of time.

"Mixed feelings? Nah, Omega is cool, I live there, you know - Suger by the way, nice to meet you" She had been sitting down with the asari, sipping her Tupari.
"I've been living there all my adult live and seriously it's not as bad as the press in C Space makes it look. I own a club in Gozu. Spacer's Dive. Come by when you have time, I'm behind the bar and you won't find better cocktails on the damned station." she laughed at her own sales pitch.
"Yeah, they are still fixing some shit from that attack by the Cerbies." She remembered that episode with the messed up plumbing in her apartment block. Cerbie had been stupid as fuck, that much was sure, messing with the stations shitpipes.
"What brings you to the Big Rock, if I may ask?"

"Business, I'm afraid", Vanidha replied. Of course, she didn't want to give this woman the whole story. "I'm not much for bars, it's an environment that usually results in complications."
She opened the can and took a sip of the sweet liquid. "Sugar, indeed. Probably not much else in here", she remarked with a smirk. "I'm Vanidha, I'm a writer. Omega is the place to go for stories on the seedier side. Of course I wouldn't publish anything with true names and locations, just trying to grab ideas for novels and short stories."
She stretched out her legs and flexed her fingers. "I'm stuck here for a while to get my shuttle repaired, so I'll be looking for ideas here for the next few days." A little holiday couldn't hurt, she figured. There had to be places on this world to be worth going. Maybe there were even some seedy areas where she could pretend to be a helpless victim and lure out someone who'd be deserving of her special attention?

Business, I'm afraid. In Omega language that clearly meant none of your business. Sure thing honey.
She chuckled at the name joke. She had never heard that one before, no. “Hey, they say it’s one hundred percent without natural sweetener. So whatever it is, it ain’t Sugar.”
“A writer huh? Anything published I might know of? But I can tell you, if you want to find interesting stories – like, THE interesting stories you wouldn’t believe, you should totally come to my place and hang out at the bar. Or even better work behind it, it’s hard to imagine what people tell bartenders on Omega. Or the stories that unfold before your eyes. Like that one time, when some asari was tracking down her hulk of a girlfriend who obviously went underground after the war for some reason and chose my bar as a crash. Now that was some scene you don’t see every day. Or that krogan warlord who reunited with his daughter and stuff… Yeah, I’d know a few stories I guess…. or could get you into contact with … people.”
She sipped her drink.
“You have your own shuttle? Neat! I can’t afford such luxury… yet anyway.”

Vanidha pondered that suggestion for a moment. "I suppose you do have a point. And, well, it's possible you might have read something but I don't publish under my real name, I prefer not to be recognised." Even someone with a lie-detector couldn't have found fault in that statement.
Of course, from the products of her writing she'd never be able to afford a shuttle. She wasn't that good and getting published at all while you're trying not to let people know who you really were was a pain.
"Does it take a lot of skill to work the bar? I'm sure I'd have to know all kinds of recipes for cocktails and what species to serve what kinds of drink. I'd expect people to take at least half a year to just learn how not to poison anyone?" Vanidha took another swig and leaned back, looking at Sugar with a gentle smile on her face. "In short, I'm not sure I'd do well. I don't drink anything that has intoxicating substances in it, it tends to have unpredictable effects on my biotics. As you have seen, they do come in handy sometimes."

"Whew, glad that little dance with customs is over", Alystae T'Naron musing to herself as she walked into the waiting area. Today was all about business, finalizing a deal to funnel more grey market salvage to outlaying earth towns and villages in exchange for a few crates of various resources to be sold at a date TBD. Alystae had found the earth representatives quite amenable to her terms, but the greedy customs officials who were amenable to the Ice Bitch's views on free trade were always a balancing act. The deal had been struck despite the cursing, threats and posturing, that part was always a chore, "I'll never understand why some people say no, when it's so easy just to say yes." The tall maiden taking off her peacoat, slinging it on her shoulder, wearing a dark blue blouse and black business slacks with her dress boots as she looked around for a drink of some sort, finally finding a vending vending machine that another asari and human were frequenting.
"Excuse me ladies, mind if I try mah luck here", Alystae drawling as she reached the duo with her credits at hand, hoping for a coffee in the vending machine, or at the least an energy drink. The Ice Bitch had another meeting with various businesses, she needed a boost. Giving the asari a brief glance, aside from the striking green eyes, she appeared nondescript, the human was exotic looking though the smile seemed a bit too sweet for her tastes. "Been having a rough morning, I need a pick me up before the next meeting if you know what ah mean", a genial smile creasing the youthful face of the tall maiden as she selected a traditional salarian tea from the machine.

Vanidha blinked when she heard an Asari speaking the Terran language in an accent that made it hardly comprehensible. Of course, Vanidha had learnt to speak received pronunciation, the gold standard of Terran English as it was used on their news media, such as the BBC. Of course, she never quite managed, there were too few human conversational partners to ever get the amount of practice in which she needed to get rid of her Asari accent, but this woman was speaking in a way so completely alien it just took Vanidha aback.
"Uhm, it should be working fine, we didn't do any damage to it", Vanidha said. They weren't in the way, seated at the nearby table, so Vanidha didn't move. She wasn't that jumpy, not after that much time of being used to live a life under false identities. She was safe, nobody knew who she was, nobody could possible trace her fake identity all the way to her real identity and unless she gave herself away by her own stupidity she was no more at risk here than any other traveller frequenting the location.

“Yeah, mixing is a form of art, you know. I’ve been working bars for most of my adult life so yeah, I picked up something or another.” She chuckled, thinking of herself as the best on Omega.
“The only thing is to have the dextro and levo stuff separated at all times, other than that, the recipes work well enough, I build levo cocktails from my memory too so why not dextro? That’s a question I get often but it is really no problem. Handling some krogan stuff is though. There are liquers where you need protective gloves before handling.”
She wasn’t sure why that tall maiden was chatting them up. They were seated at a table and clearly not blocking the machine. “Sure go ahead… it seems to have occasional malfunctions though, wish you luck.” She felt like warning the tall asari but obviously the machine was all okay now. And girl did she have a drawl or what.
Turniung back to Vindha, she continued: “You look like you could work as security though? Your biotics are impressive enough. Your arms too if I might say so. Anyway, no alcohol on that job… which is no prob, there are just as many non-alc drinks on my list. Just think about it, don’t want to talk you into something or like, whatever. Cheers.”
It was obvious to Sugar that writing didn’t by that shuttle and it was obvious that the “business” might include not so completely legal aspects which might buy one. None of her business though.

"I suppose I could work security", she admitted. "I've had almost four of your centuries to hone these biotic abilities, they've got to be good for something." She figured she wouldn't have a problem getting unruly drunks in line, or thrown out if they were a menace to themselves and others.
"I will admit, the thought had never crossed my mind, it might help if I'm ever short for cash", Vanidha concluded. "Only problem is, I'm not that much of a people person, I tend to be short-tempered when someone is getting on my nerves. It's not a problem on Omega if people end up with a few intact bones less in their body, is it?"

"Not much damage, I think I'll be the judge of that", a wry smile creeping onto Alystae's face as she hit the vend button, only for the tea to be stuck midway through dispensing, "Tides damnit, looks like it's time for the old fashioned", the Nartin maiden giving the machine a hard love tap, jarring the tea loose and getting a few stares in the process. Humming a jaunty tune, Alystae opened the tea as she made her way to the table, the look the other asari had given her upon hearing her accent. And the other woman worked a bar at Omega, "nothin' wrong with a little bit of networking".
Finding an empty seat at the table with Sugar and Vanidha, Alystae placing her coat on her shoulders before taking a sip of tea. "Not much damage...that P.O.S. is flat out broken. I'll file a complaint before heading back to the Citadel. Sorry if I interrupted you both, just waiting on a shuttle here, name's Alystae T'Naron by the way, and who might you ladies be?" Alystae letting accent creep through despite the look the other asari gave her, the Ice Bitch not caring if she was considered backwater by other members of the Republics, she was used to it by now, at least until people realized who they were dealing with.
