Trategos, Pelion system, at the heart of the Nimbus cluster in asari space. All of you have your individual reasons or orders to be here. The success of the N7 Initiative program during the Reaper War had led to various forms of collaborate efforts of all Citadel Space races afterwards and so a mixed group of specialists is assembled on the frozen ball of ice and snow to work together and get the job done under the auspices of the asari and their High Command. Learn from each other, cooperate, strike bonds and form connection based on trust and shared experience. If that does not sound asari-like…. You’re here for only a few days, welcomed by the Matriarch and her staff and briefly introduced and barely had the chance to make yourself comfortable in your quarters when a briefing call assembled everyone in a large briefing room in the military section of the spaceport….

Why? Why of all the officers was she put in command of the “flying zoo”? Nyx was sulking as she walked next to her Matriarch. T’Veda’s word was her command but sometimes an asari maiden could not be blamed for wishing it would not have been her that was selected…. Nyxeya T’Phori was put in command of the freshly formed Glacier Purple Squad where transfer officers from other species were also a part of. It had been nicknamed the “flying zoo” in the huntress’s mess hall. “Well, don’t sulk like that Nyx” Op specialist Joletha was giving support. The rotund purple asari was limping along with the help of biotically assisted crutches and two leg prosthetics. She had lost both her legs fighting on Cyone in the last days of the war, barely saved her live. Now she was a strategic planner in the staff of the Matriarch. Her experience with the N7 ops on Cyone had her involved in the formation of Purple Squad. “You’ve seen the dossiers, you met most of them by now, they seem not that bad. And you get to use the new ship, Petrichor Echo. You get all the nice toys”“Yeah, that should be fun though.” Nyx sighed and straightened up. She was no wimp after all! “You’re right. Of course we will perform, Lady Matriarch.” I will keep getting all the trash assignments probably…
And they entered the briefing room where a krogan and a couple of asari were gathered, one of them quite green.

Vastra T'Veda smiled as they walked. Slowly, since she used a cane and Jo was using crutches. “It will be an experience, Nyxeya. I’ve been talking to a commando a while ago who was stationed with the Alliance several times. She learned a lot of things from that, valuable experience.” Freh’ya also had complained about random dickery by some humans and but well. No need to tell Nyxeya that now, Vastra had confidence in her officer, otherwise she would not have selected her. Nyx just didn’t know about some of her abilities yet. Young maidens… “Here we are…” The doors opened before the Matriarch and her two companions. ~~~~~~~ “Welcome for the first briefing of Purple Squad.” Matriarch T’Veda nodded towards everyone, then towards Rahilan in particular and smiled. “Rahilan, good to see you again, under better auspices. I hope you have parked properly this time?
Now let’s get started, this will be your first mission as a team. You all know Lieutenat T’Phori, squad leader on this mission. I wished you could have spend more time with training but this must be handled with time in mind, so please excuse if this will have to serve a bit of a life exercise and you are all professionals after all. The mission is not a complicated one.” She opened up a holo terminal so everyone could see her projections of systems, planets and data. “The mission profile is a recovery of … misplaced items.” She made a pause and opened up a starmap of Nimbus Cluster, zooming into the Kallili System. “It is a selection of standard Hierarchy class 2 containers.” Another picture of what looked like a bad image of an underground dumpster and several clearly marked containers. “This is the only picture we have of them at their current location, the containers have RFID so you can clearly identify them but you have to get close to detect it, maybe fifty meters under the conditions down there. This is a long abandoned mining site on Pania, we could narrow it down, but the prospector drone that provided this picture ceased to function shortly after and the location can only be narrowed down to certain area. We have plans for the tunnels and caverns but beware, it’s unclear how accurate they are today, but it’s the best we got.
The mission is, go there without raising a fuss and find and retrieve the containers.
There are a few things that have to be considered here. The turians are anxious to get their stuff back and we don’t want them to poke around all over Nimbus for it with their fleets in full alert mode. This gets handled by us directly. They agreed to that but we have to get this done quickly. Second thing is, all the mining installations on Kallili got destroyed during the war but Lemnia is in rbuild mode now by mostly private endeavors. But focus of investors is shifting to revive mining on Pania as well and we do not want any private scouting party to stumble across the containers. That’s why you will keep away from contacting anyone or advertise your presence in Kallili.
Pania is kind of an open planet right now until the rights to the claims are revived so we don’t know what or who you might encounter. There are Republics patrol forces policing the system of course but they are spread thin and can’t completely control or track who approaches the planets. It could be anything from legit prospectors to remnants of pirate gangs to … whoever feels lucky. You have full authority of High Command for this mission and all necessary pass codes, but you report to my office exclusively.
The turian Councilor made me even travel to the Citadel to see them in person about this, which was a drag. Just so you don’t think this is just casual. Get this job done as quickly as possible and bring the containers here so we can ship them off to the Turians.”She looked around the group, judging their reactions….

The Green Asari was nearly late herself, getting to the briefing room just before Nyx and the Matriarch. She, however, didn't storm from her room to get there. She took her time settling in. What were they gonna do? Yell at her? Bust her back down to something lower? They barely gave her an Officer Rank--the lowest, well depending on how you looked at it. She supposed they could take her commission away, but that could get tied up with other legal matters and it'd be awhile before the brunt of it really hit her--so they wouldn't make a fuss if she was late... maybe yell at her.
Still, despite her careless attitude she made it on time and sat down just before the party got started. She slouched in her chair with her arms folded under her bust. The Green Asari wore a pair of standard BDU pants and boots, and a black tank top. Something, perhaps, most immediately noticeable, aside from her rare green skin tone, was that she looked bigger than typical Asari seen in clubs or on the street. However, not so much in height. Thanks to her sleeveless top her arms were on display, and while not detracting from her beauty and feminine perception it was clear she was a strong Asari. Even her torso was just a little thicker, likely wrapped in powerful muscle.
She'd listen boredily to the briefing, scarcely really paying attention. Her eyes more checking out the people she'd be working with, lingering longer on the others of her species, especially Nyx. But in the end she'd find the toes of her boots more interesting
"Blah blah blah," she mumbled quietly to herself. "Go in get the thing, don't wake the hungry, sleepy varren, good luck, don't die--well try not to..."

Vorano stood by the holo-table as he looked around to each member of the squad. He had been the first to arrive at the meeting, and had stood in complete silence, green eyes appraising each member as they arrived. The geth, Pennant, was a rare sight, not something he had seen many of in all of his years of fighting. Not only was it a geth hunter platform, but one rigged for medical purposes. He had never seen such a thing, even after the Reaper War. The only other member of the party to stand out to him was the green asari. He was certain he had heard of it happening, but also fairly certain it was a symptom of a recent and rare medical condition, which begged the question of how she had ended up looking like that. On top of her odd skin tone, she was well built for an asari, who all seemed to favor a slimmer frame. Apart from those two, there were no new and interesting sights to behold among the party. He had seen plenty of humans and asari were as common as water.
The Krogan was clad in angular Terminus Armor, pained all black with violet highlights and a purple visor, one pauldron baring the image of a coiled thresher maw skeleton, the other an image of a silver and blue varren. His helmet was off, magnetically clipped to his left hip, revealing his dark gray skin and blue plated face. One hand rested on his helmet while the other rested on the holotable, lightly browsing through the data held on it for anything of great interest. Upon his back was his Revnant LMG, an older model with a higher capacity thermal clip and greater stability. The Krogan was ready to go, as usual.
When the matriarch arrived, he took a data pad off the table and made his way to a seat and dropped into it, listening to it groan under the weight. He hummed a tune to himself, though it sounded nothing like the actual song he had been thinking of until she began speaking, immediately falling silent again. It amused him that she spoke as plainly as she did, nothing like the very business like Asari he was used to, all professional with no unnecessary wordage. The mission itself seemed simple enough, and he was starting to think he needed a new weapon of choice. *Maybe I should acquire an executioner pistol from those blood pack fools*, he thought to himself, *or an M-11 Suppressor. That might be more the style this mission is headed.*

“Thank you Ma’am,” Rahi smiled, ducking her head in courtesy to the Matriarch. “Yes Ma’am, Vanguard is at your disposal, ship and crew.”
There was a hint of colour on Rahi’s cheeks at the friendly jibe about her last ‘landing’ here, but where once it would have had her blushing furiously and falling over herself to apologise, now she took the joke in stride, unruffled. A year under the wing of Aliza T’Vedri on Valhawk had matured her: she still held herself with the formal posture one might expect more from an officer of the Hierarchy or the Alliance than the far less regimented huntresses of the Republics - and wore a style of uniform to match, all impeccable navy blue and polished gold trim - but she no longer carried that aura of youthful anxiety, perpetually conscious of the gulf between herself and her superiors.
She remained silent during the initial briefing, listening diligently, peering at the blurry image of their goal, and making the occasional note on her pad. Lysia’s mumbled observation wasn’t lost on her, but beyond a widening of her eyes she didn’t react, nor turn to the slouching asari. She had maintained the same polite reserve waiting for the briefing to begin, standing at ease with hands clasped behind her back, betraying no obvious surprise or concern at the various soon-to-be-colleagues - even the geth - as they made their way in and took their seats.

Nyx Was taking a standing position on the side, looking over her team. That krogan seemed capable. He wasn’t one of many words from what little she had been able to observe in the brief time they had to set up.
That young asari pilot seemed wet behind her aurals. But Lady T’Veda knew her from some action a while back where she had helped the Lady out big time, so she would take her matriarch’s word that Rahilan was good at her job. The shiny spotless uniform was typical fleet commando though.
And then there was Lysia. That commando! When Nyx closed her eyes, she could immagien a krogan sitting there. The grumpy kind. But was this greenling capable! She had only briefly working with her but from a professional pint of view she was absolutely an addition and someone you’d want to have next to you in a fight. Nyx was no weakling herself, sporting some muscle, so she had an eye for who worked out and who didn’t. But that attitude… involuntarily Nyx let out a sigh, turning her attention back to the display.
“Okay, that means we will have to comb through some of these tunnels and check at least these three nodes.” She highlighted some larger underground caverns, connected by a series of larger and smaller mining shafts. “Uhm, I mean, it may not seem important but… do we know what’s inside? Is it of any concern, danger…?”

“Hm, I’m afraid I can’t answer that at this point but if undamaged the classification is hazard zero. Just don’t tamper with it. A set of six LOKI units is available for you to handle the heavy lifting. We assume from this data that the containers have not been opened. But if you find them damaged or opened, have the LOKIs only retrieve the intact units, we will see to handling this when it’s an issue. But to all we know, even when damaged, they pose no immediate danger. I trust in your abilities to handle this mission, Lieutenant.”
The strategist that has been standing next to T’Veda leaned on one crutch and made some notes on a datapad. “Does anybody else have special equipment requests?" she asked without looking up from her pad.

Normally, Lysia confronted the people that stared at her. Was it her tattoos? Or her muscles? Or her green skintone? But this was a briefing and she knew better than to stir things up while around a Matriarch--well at least Matriarchs who gave a shit.
Lysia scoffed at the blueberry all prim and proper. "Fucking girl scout." It annoyed her and amused her at the same time. She didn't get it, how that could happen, but she wasn't one to question some of the contradictions about herself.
The Green Asari seemed to go from bored to on the verge of passing out. How dull did briefings have to be? She stared off into any old direction while everyone droned on, not noticing that her eyes remained on Nyx for quite some time through much of the briefing.
Black painted lips spread and curled into a smirk on her face. "How about a remote control so I can fast forward through this?" Lysia really didn't need much more than her biotics on missions, so decided to be a smartass instead.

Rahi let a slight intake of breath slip through her composure at Lysia’s rudeness, but clamped down on it, and looked levelly at the Matriarch as though she hadn’t heard anything.
“Ma’am, if I may?” she asked. “Do we have a confirmed explanation for the drone failure? I used to fly-drive for a surveyor,” she explained, “and the business probably wasn't dissimilar to the private scouts that’d be on Pania. A downed drone, even one that seemed to be a malfunction, could easily be the work of a rival team. They’d tap into competitors’ signals and decrypt what they could, and any drone that looked like it’d turned up a find, they’d hit it with an e-bomb and then try to clear the site out before the drone’s owner could get there to investigate.”

Ugh, that junior grade was so smug. She thought she was so clever. How did she even survive that long if she didn’t pay attention to detail? Maybe she was one of those that had more luck than brains. Not unheard of. Nyx looked from her to the krogan and back and raised an eyebrow involuntarily.
Of all the asari commandos it had to be that one… The Lady Matriarch wanted to test her for something special.
That pilot though…. Good thinking. It brought her thoughts back to the actual topic. “What do we know about the drone, who sent it?” She looked at the picture again, squinting. “and do we know why that picture quality is so bad?” The fact that the contents were unknown but supposedly harmless didn’t really calm Nyxeya.

Vorano sat forward in his seat as he listened intently to the conversations that were beginning to emerge on the subject. Any crates that the turians were anxious about were most likely not completely harmless, and he didn't like the idea of being told otherwise. It could be prototypes of some kind, compromising data or materials that would upset the peace between the species of the galaxy. Like the bomb buried on Tuchanka they hadn't told his people about. It was bound to be less malign than they were letting on, though he wouldn't push the subject. Instead, he decided to approach the subject of the blurry image from the drone.
"Communication signals are patchy at best while underground without a hardline and relays linking devices. Even with today's technology. Add in high density heavy metals like lead, or uranium and you may have trouble sending out a signal at all. Its a common problem in mining operations. What kind of ore they were digging up would tell us that much." He paused and rubbed his chin. "Additionally, electromagnetic interference, either from the planet itself, solar storms, or some malfunctioning device in the mines could cause the poor quality seen in this image, and easily could have knocked the drone offline." He shifted slightly, resting his elbows on his knees as he steeples his hands. "That, or an illegal salvage team, pirates, or someone else is already planet side and fried the drone before it could spot them. Happens all the time."
