When Nyxeya heard Vorano talk, she shifted in her bunk, leaning outward a bit. Now she could see more than just the corner where that helmet hang and there he was, tossing a headset aside. She was thinking about asking but it was none of her business whatever he had going on in his life. But maybe it was if it affected his readiness?
She dropped her own pad and swung her legs from the bed, so she was sitting now, looking over at the krogan. “Hey, what are you up to there?” she nodded at his reading material. “Seems everybody else is doing sightseeing. I’ve been looking at the maps we have from those mines. Pretty sketchy stuff in some areas really, but I assume whoever deposited our cargo there had the same or worse plans. That particular mining field was shut down almost a century ago. That narrows the search to three larger storage nodes. But ... I have noted that some passageways are going to be pretty narrow.” That was a gentle way of bringing up krogans not liking tight spaces. It must have been horrible for them fighting the rachni in their tunnels way back when.
“I was thinking, maybe you should be the one in the back in that case, keeping our way out covered. Lysia has to stay with me for most effective biotic combos and Rahilan… well, she is the kind of girl who should be in the middle position.” She grinned. No pun intended. That asari was the most petite one and the techie of the group. “But I would appreciate your opinion on this.”

"Good! So we're mutual then." She grinned. "Get to know one another."
"It's not a cosmetic mod... well... I'll tell you more about it in the privacy of that Forerider then. There might not be a lot of room in there, but just the two of us. And we can set our plates on our laps. And depending on how much time we have, maybe we could relax and take it slow." She loved the way Rahi blushed and stumbled over her words. It was really adorable.
"And," she kept her lure out. "You get to be the only one on the crew that knows why I'm green. And I'm only telling you because... I like you and I want you to feel you can trust me."

Vorano rubs his hands together and sets them on his knees as he looks over to Nyxeya, listening with a slow nod "I had noticed that while I was reviewing the area maps. There will be a lot of close quarters situations, but also many open areas where my weapons will be most effective. Hopefully biotic explosions and flash-bangs won't cause a cave in." He set his pad down beside him and rubbed at his chin, as if in thought for a few seconds "As much as I dislike the closed spaces, I should be able to handle them well enough."
He took a deep breath as he changed the subject "And for your information, I was checking on one of my people. One of my contacts, a turian female that goes by Kiha, was hospitalized during the briefing. Apparently she was shot five times by a human, on the Citadel, of all places. He got away from C-Sec. He won't get away from me."

Vorano had voiced a concern of her own, the stability of the tunnels. "I know, I have thought about that as well. We don't know in what kind of shape the old mines are, so we definitely must execute caution. The lack of water on Pania has helped it seems, we have seen no flooding or cave ins on the video material we have." Nyxeya stood and walked over to a water dispenser to get herself a cup. "In the best case we don't have to worry about explosions at all and all we encounter down there is old rusty junk and fat spiders." she grinned sheepishly and leaned against the bulkhead. She nodded at his story, pursing her lips.
"Sounds serious, I hope she's going to be alright. Turians are tough though." She scratched a fold on her head. "Shooting on the Citadel, huh? Well, C-Sec has their hands more than full it seems." Full with getting their ass handed to them, she thought. "You seem like a guy who does not make empty promises there." She grinned at him over her cup. She was betting he was going to hunt that sorry fucker down for no gain other than the pleasure of ending him for what he did. Personal stuff. She hoped he had his priorities right for the next couple of days.

Rahi was caught between a smile and biting her lip thinking of the close confines of the Forerider’s cabin, but Lysia’s ‘lure’ made her eyes widen.
“I do!” she replied at once, suddenly earnest. “If I - did I? - during the briefing, if I seemed more... formal? It’s how we are - huntresses I mean - in the Reach, ever since the first colonies, tradition passed down from our first commando Matriarchs. It... does seem kind of... well people joke that we’re turians in disguise, all regimented, march in step, so on. Sometimes it’s a bit of a, um, an adjustment for outsiders to get used to us, and us to them, and we’re proud of our heritage so first impressions can be...” She shook her head. “I’m sorry, if I seemed, uh, dismissive? Is what I mean. But that’s neither here nor there in any case, you’re one of us - a huntress I mean, a commando as well, and placed here by a Matriarch’s hand. Trust is absolute. There’s not a woman crewing this ship who wouldn’t guard you with her life, me included.” She seemed completely serious too - it was odd to see in one so young, and made it difficult to tell if it was maturity beyond her years, or naivete.

The Commando couldn't help smiling nice and wide for Rahi while she saw her expression caught in limbo.
Lysia let out a laugh. "At ease, Rahi. I was giving you shit because I was bored. Honestly, it's hard to want to pay attention sometimes. I'd much rather be out in the field. Either doing some kind of undercover work or going straight in. I mean, I read all the the files and about how we're going in and expecting to get extracted. Everything else is just play by ear and... well with the exception of getting to know you more... I just kinda wanna get out there and get the job done. But I was a total ass during the briefing." Lysia ventured to put a hand on Rahi's knee and brought her eyes level with the girl's. "Relax. You don't have to be super strict or remind me how the navy and commandos and operations work."
For a moment she paused and then she gave Rahi a smirk. "Okay, so how about--when we finish this mission, you and I go out and do something relaxing together? Get to know one another and relax. No pressure if you don't want to... and you have the whole trip there and back to think about it. And while we have free moments, I want to spend some time in that Forerider."

The large krogan nodded slowly and began sorting through the documents they had on the mine they were searching. "She's not in good shape, but she's tough. She'll make it." He shook his head "This won't affect my focus on the mission. The rest of my network is still working to get me a large enough lead to chase." He said as he set his pad to the side. "I will make good on that statement. After this mission is over with, not before, and I won't let it be a distraction while we're in the tunnels. Too much else to do while we're down there."
"With a great deal of the caves unexplored, it all depends on the structural integrity of the tunnels. If we do need to fight, I don't recommend grenades or any kind of explosive. the concussion wave might be enough to bring some of those tunnels crumbling down, not to mention the the fact that the narrower tunnels will channel it in both directions." He shook his head from side to side slowly and shrugged. "So, what's our schedule going to look like , or are we still waiting on that?"

Nyx felt some sympathy for the krogan. She knew very well how he must feel about an injured who had to stay behind while he was out doing his job. "I'm sorry. She'll make it, you'll see." In reality she had no idea who that turian even was but she wanted to say something positive at least. Maybe she was his girlfriend even. But Vorano was a pro and it showed.
"Yeah, I don't think we should take on grenades anyway. again, I really don't expect anything at all. At best this is guarding the mechs carrying the crates out and take care they don't take a wrong turn." she pulled open her omnitool, checking the timetable. "Maybe we can shoot some extra fat spiders." she chuckled.
"It's not complicated. Tomorrow afternoon we will make the planet. We will then enter the tunnels at a cargo docking platform and make our way down, checking each of the three big nodes. If all goes well we will have that down after less than twenty hours. Somewhere there we will find the items and that's that, in and out within a day." She sipped the rest of her water. "After we drop off the material on Trategos you can start your hunt." She envied him a bit for the excitement. "She your girlfriend?" Nyx asked quite bluntly.

“At ease, aye ma’am,” Rahi replied - but grinning now, reassured by Lysia’s words; she didn’t pull away from the hand on her knee, either. She nodded, almost unconsciously, at her suggestion.
“Uh, yes,” she murmured, smiling. “To the Forerider, and, also after the mission. That sounds... I’d like that.” She opened her mouth to say something more, then seemed to decide she liked the way things had come out so far, and shut it again with a nod.
“Soooo...” she said instead, “I’ll uh... get some food, and, meet you in the cargo bay?”

Lysia gave Rahi a smile right back. "Sure, I'll meet you in the cargo bay." She nodded and gave Rahi's knee a squeeze. "See you in a few minutes."
Then she stood up and left Rahi to make her way to the Cargo Bay. Since she'd taken the tour and managed to pay attention despite all the lady ass she was checking out earlier, it wasn't hard to find her way to the Cargo bay. She'd lean against one of the walls and look at the Forerider from where she was. Rahi wasn't kidding about the size of the cockpit--or cab, or whatever someone wanted to call it--"The Drive-y Place."

Tahlia was Vanguard’s unofficial ‘ship’s chef’ - through a combination of being fairly decent with the facilities on offer in the compact kitchenette, and the only one who knew the extent and location in the cargo bay of all the random odds and ends she picked up every time they made port in any case. Rahi spotted her talking with Saphne on the command deck as she passed, but found she had already been at work after takeoff, the serving area boasting a selection of trays containing... well, she wasn’t sure what entirely, but it smelled good and Tahlia knew what she was doing. She scooped up two, a canister of chilled juice, and a pack of napkins and utensils, peeked around the doorway into the crew area to see Nyxeya and Vorano in conversation, and skipped quickly back to the elevator.
It was only then that she glanced down at herself, and wondered if she should have changed. Should she? It wasn’t just dinner, it was dinner. Lysia had touched her knee, too. Although aside from uniforms, battle skinsuit, and armour for ground ops, all she had was fairly nondescript casual wear. And the elevator was about to arrive on the cargo deck. Lysia had said ‘a few minutes’ anyway, she probably wasn’t expecting... Rahi inhaled and undid her jacket collar as the best concession to ‘off duty’ she could contrive under the circumstances.
“Hi! Again,” she piped up, spotting Lysia by the Forerider. “I brought...” She really should have asked Tahlia what it was. “...dinner.”

Lysia had started to get bored while she waited for Rahi, but the young Asari arrived before the Green One could get into any trouble. She turned and gave Rahi a smile. "Wonderful, I'm actually quite hungry." She grinned. "I suppose now we try to figure out how to get into the forerider without spilling the food?"
The Green Asari did notice the slightly more casual Rahi. The way the girl was reacting to her was actually quite cute. Lysia was a whole BDU jacket and tank top more casual than Rahi. Her jacket and tank top were thrown over one of her toned arms leaving nothing but her sports bra to cover her and then her bdu pants.
"Here, let me grab this while you let us in. I'll pass it up to you." She offered, moving to carefully take the tray with their meals on it. As she did, her hands would brush up against Rahi's.

“Thanks!” Rahi handed over the tray, eyes lingering on it a moment as their hands touched, then seemed to mentally shake herself as she turned back to the Forerider. The front of the vehicle opened at a touch from her omni-tool, and she clambered up into the driver’s bay with practiced ease, scooting over to make room and reaching out for the tray.
With all the controls retracted, the bay was actually quite roomy - for one person. For two, not so much, although there was room to sit side by side without being in one another’s lap, more or less; the smart foam of the driver’s seat adjusted as best it could to the odd weight of two people rather than one, so at least they wouldn’t have to deal with limbs going to sleep from being pressed onto hard surfaces at weird angles. Of course there would have been plenty of room in the passenger seats, but never having needed more room until the present, Rahi had never bothered moving out the shaped containers of spares and power cells stored there until the vehicle needed to be prepped for a mission.
Still there’s something to be said for limited space... oh huh, wow okay. Having intended a sly glance at Lysia as she settled in alongside, pressed comfortably up against her, Rahi inadvertently got a good close look at her cleavage, before she tore her gaze back to their plates on the tray balanced on their laps.
“So this is... I don’t actually know what,” she said hesitantly. “But Tahlia’s a great cook, I’m sure it’s great. It smells great, don’t you think?” She paused a moment, and spoke more quietly: “Do you speak thanks, or...? It’s really just a habit, no need if you’re ready to tuck in.” She gave a cheerful smile. Her crew joined her in the quick prayer to Athame before each meal, but the worship of the goddess was far from common these days - only Saphne had any background in it, and even she wouldn’t normally have practiced the rituals. That she, and the others, did so for her sake - without ever being asked - made Rahi feel at home on Vanguard, more than any ship or crew before; not the respect to the religion itself, but the feeling of family that it owed itself to.

Vorano looked up at the question, grinning slightly with a hiss of air that finally erupted into a short, loud laugh. "Ha! Not by a long shot. She's just a friend I made a few years ago working on Palaven." He rubbed at his plates and let out a sigh "I'm not her type anyway. She used to be a hardass lieutenant of a Turian Cabal, and her last interaction with a krogan before the Reaper War was being shot point blank by a claymore. So it was a bit difficult to earn her trust anyway. Her squad still doesn't like me." He stretched out his arms and slowly stood up. "As for our schedule, I meant for our time on the ship, including meals and such things, not mission time tables. I've already got that part down straight."

Nyx sipped the rest of her water, listening. "Oh, sorry about that. Seems like she draws unwanted attention a lot. Shot by a Clyamore... shit." She dried off her cup with a cloth and stored it in her locker again. "I think when you can catch the sucker who did this to her, you may earn some extra respect." Krogans and turians were going back a long way and while things were getting better since the war, old habits died hard. Not that many krogan trusted the asari very far either or the other way around. It had surprised Nyxeya when Matriarch T'Veda had listed a krogan on the roster. But that guy sure was of the very reasonable kind., which she was grateful for. Nyx had never commanded a unit with a krogan before and it had concerned her a bit. There was a lesson somewhere in this mission.
"Oh, okay. Nah, you can do as you like, nothing to do other than polish heatsinks really... " she sniffed the air. "But from the smell, it seems the cooks has prepared something. I could grab a bite, wanna join?" Around the corner, some of the crew were picking up their food from Tahlia. Nyx said hello and picked up a try of her own, sitting down in some corner, trying not to get in the way. There were only two other crewmembers who were talking about some sports results.
As a commando she was used to field rations and worse so everything above dryfrozen substance of undefined origin (taste: unspecified bird flavour) was high cuisine for her. This food dfinitely was above standard although Nyx couldn’t identify some ingrediences. The navy was providing for their own for sure whenever they could. Fancypants, but in this case the nicer sort.
