T’Veda leaned forward, resting her hands on the console. She gave the krogan an appreciative nod. “Indeed you are right Mr. Vorano. That rock is full of transuranic elements and heavy metals.” She made a pause and looked into the team’s faces, resting a bit longer at the krogan’s. “Which means, you should not lick the rocks probably, but there’s no direct radiation danger, don’t worry. Anyway, signals won’t reach very far and the interferences you see are to be expected. The probe was a simple prospector unit of private a mining council. They are mapping facilities for the reboot attempts and assess damages.
As for your question, Rahilan, the Prospector council has shifted their focus to the other hemisphere, it was ... suggested to them and they seemed to comply, so there should not be any activity in this node of shafts we are looking at. These drones are no military grade, they are simple and get sent out by the dozen. They sometimes fail, it might as well mean nothing. But as I said, we can’t know. Sabotage is not an impossibility, this makes time even more of a factor. I don’t want to explain to the turians that we dropped the ball on this but what little we extracted from the turians it seems unlikely that anyone else is on the trail. This is not counting out random looters for example, there has been enough piracy even for a Matriarch's lifetime since the end of the war.”

Nyx also nodded at the krogan's comment.
"Yeah. These old mines maybe used for goddess knows what during the war and after, that whole planet looks like maze with all the tunnels and caverns, I sure bet more than enough gangs or stranded refugees were hanging around. Looters after abandoned tech for sure. I mean, what little the Reapers left intact. Maybe who ever stumbles around in the dark does not even know about the turians' treasure chests. Might still be not please when we show up though." She looked over at Lysia. I could just send her in alone. She'd annoy everyone else out and we'd be save. She involuntarily chuckled but caught herself with a smirk.
"Rahilan, I hear you have a bit of expertise with drones. Do we have a stash to have them do some scouting ahead once we go in? That's a bit of territory to cover and it could be in any of these three nodes." she pointed at three blinking highlighted caverns on the 3D map in front of them. Many tunnels were leading everywhere from them, they looked like nerve nodes in a medical scan of a person'd brain.
Looking back at Lysia, Nyx eventually noticed some tension under the tough and obnoxious skin from the corner of her eye. It was like as if it wasn't visible if you looked straight at her. She was the kind who actually wished for some asshats to get in their way just to blow them apart. Nyx caught herself thinking this might actually be fun with Lysia.
"and we don't want to blow out some poor refugees from a old downed ship or something, right?"

Rahi nodded at the Matriarch’s comments, made another note, then turned to Nyx.
“Yes Ma’am, full stores of tactical micro-drones,” she replied. “We’ve also been trialling the elcor-built drone command units - ours haven’t been under fire yet, but they’ve gone through the full gamut of field tests. Suggest one to each of the three target areas. We’ll be looking at a lot of signal black spots from the cavern walls, and the more powerful control links on the command units will serve as comms hubs to work around that.”

Lysia rolled her eyes. Then she began to mimic falling asleep through all the dull stuff. When were they going to get into the action? She could have settled into her room a bit more instead of putting up with this. After awhile, Lysia began to making snoring noises.

Well, enough was enough. T'Veda smashed a hand onto the console with a loud thud and her eyes bored like darts into Lysia's. "Attention, young lady!"
"What do you think this is? And sit upright, when I'm talking to you, missy. This is no joke and you won't make one off it, is that clear?" She made a pause to let that sink in. "If I have the slightest impression that this kind of word is too challenging for you...." another pause. "There are other places which in consequence might suit you more." Her voice was a cutting omniblade and it was unmistakably clear what the Matriarch was referring to. Had she made a mistake by assigning young Lysia Junior Grade and putting her on a team with Nyxeya? There was so much potential in the young commando but it needed to be channeled more. "Focus, T'Rata." She sighed and briefly looked from Lysia to Nyxeya.
"Alright, Rahilan, this sounds good. And please do me the favor of bringing the ship back in one piece." She eventually spoke softly again and smiled.

Vorano shrugged at the reaction he'd gotten from Lysia and relaxed in his seat. "Just because I'm a Krogan, it doesn't make me an ill-educated brute. I'm 197 years old, and I've had plenty of jobs before I became a bounty hunter. Having more than half a brain was required by most of them." He returned his attention to the Matriarch as she spoke. It was easy enough to stay out of the conversation while they talked about the logistics, but he nodded when T'Veda confirmed his analysis of the situation that may have been playing out in the tunnels. The idea of being surrounded by irradiated rock wasn't a disturbing one, and it was good to know they would have their own drones to help them scout for the target.
When he noticed that Lysia was pretending to sleep, he reached up and pulled what amounted to a cherry bomb out of a pouch on his armor, tossing it under the Asari's seat to get her attention back on the room at large at about the time T'Veda smashed her hand on the console.

Lysia didn't startle easy, not when the Krogan went overboard with the 'cherry bomb,' which would be far more disruptive than she's been, and not when the Matriarch called her out on her behavior. A sly smirk spread over her face as she slid up the tiniest bit in her seat.
The Green Asari shrugged. "Sorry, ma'am, just a little eager to get out in the field. I'll try to behave myself, and save it for while I'm out there--not the acting up, ma'am, but the enthusiasm." Lysia had more than one conversation like this before, apparently. "I'm capable, ma'am, you'll see." To some degree the Matriarch should be aware of what she could do and she let that speak for itself. Maybe the attitude was why she was junior grade, instead of an Lt. like Nyx.

Even seasoned by experience, Rahi was still Rahi; she jumped more than Lysia did, although she controlled herself well thereafter, and politely found her pad very interesting while the commando received her dressing-down.
“Uh, yes, Ma’am. Absolutely,” she said, nodding, when the Matriarch addressed her. Again she didn’t take the joke to heart, but with said heart still slowing down from the jump she couldn’t keep a bright purple flush from colouring her cheeks, and her voice returning a little to the youthful squeak the Lady no doubt remembered from their brief interactions last time. Some things never changed, it seemed.

Nyx straightened up and crossed her arms on her back, focusing on Lysia with a glare as well as the Lady Matriarch was giving her an opinion. It was also fun to watch Vorano startle Lysia as well. Given the fact that she was half krogan herself, she should be the last one to make smartass remarks towards that guy. But he just reacted like any true krogan would perhaps, which caused Nyx to smirk.
“I demand some discipline, Lysia. It does not matter how capable you are if nobody trusts you to not kill everyone while pulling shit. I will not have this on my mission and you heard what was said, I know your history as well.” She relaxed her posture a bit before adding with a slightly softer tone: “See this as an opportunity to convince the Command level that this was a good idea and you don’t want the alternative. It’s easy enough.” She pointed at the holo image of the mines. This could end up being a cakewalk really - or a huge fuckup if there was anything nobody was aware of now. They would find out.
“Are there any more questions or concerns? I suppose this is all the intel we have now and the rest we have to find out planetside.”

“Very well, see to it then. Take off when you’re ready, report as soon as you have secured the cargo. Dismissed.” Matriarch T’Veda closed the holo projection and ended the briefing. When people began to move out of the room she moved closer to Lysia. “Don’t mess this up. And… just don’t shoot at the containers.” She said with a low voice. She made a gesture regarding the green asari’s skin.
With a nod, she moved out, followed by her strategist on crutches.

Lysia kept quiet for the rest of the briefing, still slouching, but she played an okay soldier at this point. Before she could get up she was addressed by the matriarch. Her eyes widened a little. "What did I d--" she started, but fell silent when she mentioned shooting containers. She knew where this was going.
Her head sunk down and her brow markings went flat as she pursed her lips to one side. She had to mention that? At least she spared her having the whole group hear about it. Something like that could take time to live down. "Yes ma'am."

Everyone boarded the Vanguard. The cargo bay held a shelf with six neatly folded LOKI mechs and a heap of personal belongings of the squad. Armor lockers and workbench occupied another corner. While the ship already lifted off, the gang was standing around, waiting for Rahilan to show them to the quarters for the one and a half days the trip would take.

“Have you ever worked with those things before?” Nyx asked Vorano while looking closer at the white and grey mechs, huddled in a fetal position “I am no mech expert, I suppose Rahilan is though, she’s into drone as all that. My last run in with something similar was… they sported Cerberus logos and shot in my general direction. However, for us they'll just be complicated forklifts.”

“‘General direction’ is the best the targeting on those things can manage anyway,” a voice sounded, which proved to belong to a young asari who had been hidden away among the storage crates and folded-for-transport heavy equipment. She wore the same gold-trimmed uniform, but with the jacket tied by its arms around her waist, leaving her in just a bodyglove top - a contrast to the two other asari who appeared as the elevator doors opened, both as parade-ground in their appearance as Rahi.
“Tahlia Amar,” Rahi introduced the one who had spoken up, “logistics. Speak to her regarding any special stowage and maintenance on your equipment. Tahlia - Nyxeya T’Phori, Lysia T’rata, Vorano. We are at their service.”
“Aye aye sir,” Tahlia replied, with a jaunty salute that suggested she had spent some time among Alliance troops - or, more likely really, watched a bunch of their more fanciful ‘naval opera’ films.
“Aesin Olora, engineer,” Rahi went on, as the other two huntresses drew level with her. Aesin straightened her shoulders and gave a polite, formal nod to the group; she was easily the smallest of all those present, positively elfin, but enough of her figure showed through her uniform to indicate that she didn’t merely sit back and let the ship’s remotes do all the heavy lifting.
“And Ciathali e’Jera, our healer,” Rahi concluded. “Our astrogator and tactical specialist we’ll be meeting shortly when duties permit.” The healer was instantly identifiable, with the universal white of a medic on her shoulders and sleeves down to her gloved hands. The markings on her pale face were curiously absent from her left cheek, and her left eye had the pinprick lights in the iris that denoted a cybernetic.
“I trust we shan’t be meeting in a professional capacity too often, sir, ladies,” she said to the passengers.
“Our accommodations are on A Deck,” Rahi said, indicating the waiting elevator.

Vorano gazed around the deck, eying the robotic units folded up and ready for transport. He had very little respect for the machines and those that used them for combat instead of fighting for themselves. He looked to Nyx as she spoke to him and gave a shrug "I have never worked with them personally, but I can say they work well for construction if you guide them well enough. Otherwise, they have a habit of walking into objects. The VIs they use for these machines are so basic, they are almost useless on their own. I don't see the appeal to augmenting a force with them, due to how easily they can be hacked by just about anyone with an omni-tool and a little know-how."
He looked towards the elevator as it arrived and nodded to himself, shouldering his bag "The Rampart Mechs used by Cerberus were certainly a stronger, more efficient design, but I wouldn't trust a reprogrammed one as far as I could throw it." He paused a brief moment and chuckled to himself. "Mmm...That's probably a bad example." To the Asari that had arrived and were introduced by Rahi, he simply nodded in acknowledgement of each and resumed his silence, ready to be shown his quarters.
