Lysia bit down on her lower lip for a moment as the lingering moment came between them. Then she stepped back and waited for Rahi to climb aboard--certainly checking the other Asari out as she climbed up into the Forerider. The Green Asari passed the trays up to Rahi, then climbed into the cockpit herself. It took a bit of shifting and moving to get everything just right, but Lysia finally sat down, rather close to Rahi. On her way to her seat, she caught Rahi's eyes on her cleavage. "Eyes up here, soldier." Lysia teased her. With both of them checking each other out, Lysia felt she'd definitely be getting intimate with the younger Asari.
Shaking her head, Lysia dismissed the attempt to identify the food. "It's food and I've got good company. So, I'm happy." She replied. "Uhm not usually, but if it makes you comfortable, I'd be more than happy to do it with you." She offered Rahi a genuine smile.

“Likewise,” Rahi smiled, the latest blush from Lysia’s teasing settling down. She beamed at her consent to her little ritual, and bowed her head, murmuring the familiar prayer in a moment, before looking back at Lysia and nodding.
“I appreciate it,” she said quietly. “Well, then...” She seemed at a loss for what to say, and instead stopped her fingers from fiddling with the utensils and took a bite of her dinner. Her eyes widened, then she nodded and 'mmm'ed to confirm that it was good.

Likewise, Lysia bowed her head and listened to the murmuring of the girl beside her before lifting her head up and giving Rahi a smile.
"You're welcome," She leaned her shoulder into Rahi's. "Well then, here we are... and I guess I said I'd tell you why I'm green... but don't laugh or anything, okay?" She said, before taking a few bites of her food.
"So, I was on this mission...
"We had been tailing this thief for awhile. The guy was slippery as fuck. He was always getting away. Sometimes it was because we were in a place filled with explosives and couldn't fire on him. Sometimes it was because he'd turned on an electrical security floor. You get the idea... he always had something up his sleeve to keep us from stopping him. But this time we had him cornered.
"We managed to get him into this chemical plant where they make the stuff for skin mods.There really wasn't any security traps or explosives or terribly hazardous chemicals or anything for him to use to stop us from getting him. While we were trying to pin him down and catch him, he managed to lose my partner, but I was on his tail.
"I tackled him from behind, but he managed to squirm free and get up. So I pulled out my heavy pistol and fired off several rounds. I blew out his ankle, keeping him from getting away, but I also managed to rupture one of the tanks containing some green coloring for skin mods. Me and that bastard walked away the same shade of green. And the Matriarch likes to give me flack for it every once in awhile... especially since it's been several months and I'm still green... but it shouldn't be permanent."

Vorano stowed his headset and the data pad away as he listened to her, nodding slowly. "As you said tough. She has a fair bit of cybernetics holding her together at this point, I'd say. Still, someone worth knowing in the long run. She has been a much more reliable source of information then my other contacts. I'll be happy just taking down the fool that shot her."
He paused and sniffed at the air when she did, tilting his head as he tried to identify anything he could consider food, then nodded at her comment about food likely being ready. He'd never served with a group purely composed of Asari, making this a new experience. He hadn't had a new experience in years, so that was a plus. He'd also never tried Asari rations before, and since he hadn't brought his own food stores from his ship, he shrugged. "I think I'll join you for a bit." He said, following Nyx out of the common room and to the mess hall t pick up a plate of food that looked like it had the potential to be meat. It was a small space, so hall wasn't the best term. More like a closet or small office space with a kitchen attached compared to some of ships he had been on. He looked around the room for a few seconds, then decided he would remain near the Commando while he ate his 'food'. He looked at the Asari and settled in. "So, what did you do before being assigned to this mission?"

Rahi earnestly nodded her agreement not to laugh, and listened attentively as Lysia told her tale, her only reaction during it being her eyes widening at the mention of ‘chemical plant’ and guessing where it was going. She ventured a little smile at the end.
“That’s good,” she said, before halting, and quickly adding: “-not that it looks bad, at all, I didn’t mean- Just, I can imagine how it would be, people coming up to you and saying “Ooh, you look so exotic,” well, they don’t have to live with it 23 hours a day. Even if you do look, um... Yeah.” She chuckled a little. “Even if I got somehow dropped in Seysa Jannus’s body, I’d miss seeing me in the mirror. After a while.”

Nyxeya kept munching her meal, making a bit of space for Vorano.
“This and that. I’ve been a huntress since forever basically. Affter the war it was mostly anti piracy ops in the Nimbus cluster. It was quite bad for some time, a lot of Terminus freaks were cut of in here while the relay was damaged. Eventually someone found out that few moles existed in administration, selling information about our ops, that’s why we couldn’t nail them for so long. Once that source was dried, it was a one way street. That and the support coming in from Athena Nebula.
My last assignment before this affair here was actually biotic trainings. Getting new recruits up and running is a big concern right now. I mean, there are a lot of young ones who want to join but no everyone is suited for this life and it takes a long time until you become fit for independent ops. But I enjoyed that work, it’s about giving purpose to some who lost a home and a family and the huntresses can give you a new one really.Some are.... difficult but we try not to leave anyone behind, you know.”
She briefly thought about Lysia. Even that former convict could become a productive member of the society again. But in her opinion it had been a good choice to no sign up every ex-criminal that could be found just because they could spell "singularity" right. Some selection had to apply.

The Krogan nodded slowly as he listened to Nyx speak, quickly eating his meal without pause, a bad habit he had developed while being on the move for too long. "I've had several jobs, to say the least. I've only been a bounty hunter for a few decades now. Before that, I did work with a few mining corporations, some private military ventures, security. Things most people pigeon-hole Krogan into. Not easy to get a job that doesn't involve fighting when most people considered your entire species to be little more than air headed brutes. That most of us would rather fight only strengthened that perception." He shrugged and shook his head "Now my job has mostly been capturing terrorists and criminals, alive. That's been my specialty as a bounty hunter."

Nyx nodded. She was a bit guilty of such prejudice but only working with individuals gets you over that and this is what all this setup here was about, wasn't it? She wonmdered with how many asari the krogan had served. "Well, if all runs smoothly this will be a job that won't involve fighting. Guarding a couple of mechs moving some crates around and make sure nothing gets lost... again." she chuckled.They'd get along just fine.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After the meal, Nyx excused herself, grabbed a softdrink from the vending machine and was wandering the corridor outside the cabin a bit, thinking things through again. It was the beginning of the night cycle and she met only one of the crew on their way to the bridge.
She ended up in front of the elevator and decided she might as well ride down to the cargo hold and have a closer look at the mechas. Maybe it was better to leave them stored until they had found the items and not drag them along in the tunnels.
The cargo bay was dimly lit and silent, only the humming of the engines and life support indicated the movement of the ship. When she passed the Forerider, she raised an eyebrow. The pad net to the main airlock was active, which usually meant the vehicle was open.
She stopped and touched the pad. With soft hiss the hatch opened and Nyx blinked at the light from the inside. She stared right into two familiar figures, cuddled up in the drivers compartment.
“Oh.” She said. “S… sorry.”
She touched the pad again, the airlock closed with a hiss and took a step back. She shook her head and quickly retreated into the elevator again.
Lysia and Rahi. Like, what the fuck. They totally weren’t a match at all. But why would she even care? Her throat was a bit dry and she had noticed that she had squished the empty can in her hands. She disposed it into a garbage bin and shook her head. It was none of her business. As long as it wasn’t affecting the mission at least. She wouldn’t mention it again.
With a stiff back she marched back to her bunk to get some rest which she couldn't find right away and she started reading an old mission protocol.
The next day, the ship approached Parnia on time. A patrol corvette in the system was asking for their code but didn’t bother any further when they received it. Most of the shipping activity was concentrated around Lemnia where mining was already picking up in volume. Most of the vessels were unmanned freighters which didn’t bother about anyone. Parnia was a hot world. The temperature at their landing zone was at a nice and warm 200C with gusts of wind carrying abrasive sand and dust. No place to loiter outside exactly. The most convenient entry was identified at an old docking and loading port for cargo shuttles. The opening was too small to park the Vanguard though, she would just wait in a stationary orbit. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~The team consisting of Nyxeya, Lysia, Vorano and Rahilan was assembled in the cargo bay as the ship approached the target area. “Alright.” Nyx was addressing everyone. “We will be dropped shortly. Get your gear ready. I want helmets on at all times until ordered otherwise. Check the water supply and the spare energy cells. Rahi. Your drones will be essential to establish a direct connection to the surface at all time, we will most likely have to set up a relay chain.” She put on her own light grey helmet with a light blue stripe and two smaller purple ones. “Radio check, lights check” She said over the intercom. “ We will assemble inside the main loading area and take it from there. Nobody going astray or on some ego trip down there, stay close and look after another.” She checked the lights on her helmet and suit. All was well, she was ready to drop.
Lysia listened while Nyx spoke. This was the serious part for her. The Green Asari put her own light gray helmet on. Hers had a few black markings on it and some Asari profanity scrawled on the jaw of the helmet. She did her own equipment check, running through every system including life support and her omni tool. Then she went for her weapons.
Being a biotic, and relying heavily upon her abilities, she had to keep her weight down. So all of her weapons were designed to be lightweight. An Acolyte and a custom weapon modeled after the Punisher SMG--what could she say? She liked having an armor piercing round available at all times? She cocked and uncocked her weapons--the night before she took apart her guns to insure everything was in proper condition and would function properly, well when she wasn't distracting herself with Rahi. She looked up and lifted a brow at Rahi, a smile in her eyes. Then attached her weapons to her suit.
When she was ready she moved to Rahi and gently tapped her helmet against hers. Then gave her smirk--though the Asari would only be able to see her eyes through the visor in her helmet. She spun and took position next to Nyx. They might not be on the ground yet, but she knew she needed to stick close to the other Biotic. And on the field? Even the few operations she'd been on with Nyx before showed they worked well as a biotic tag team.
"I'm green el-tee." She gave a knowing, confident grin to Nyx. Then furrowed her brow and grumbled. Her usual ready-to-go phrase was now a joke, and she'd stepped in it. "Ah fuck..."
Vorano adjusted the collar of his black and purple Terminus gear, slipping on the large black helmet. He gazed at the other three through the purple tinted visor and then lifted his forearm to tap at a touch pad on his inner forearm, activating the motorized joints on his heavy duty gear with a low beep. He ran a diagnostic on his armor twice to ensure there were no punctures or malfunctioning systems, then checked over his old fashioned web gear to make sure his large number of thermal clips and non-lethal munitions were all in place. With a snort of satisfaction, he picked up his revnant and flicked off the safety.
"Set and ready, Ma'am. Shall we begin?"
“All amber, ready ma’am,” Rahi replied to Nxy, giving her navy blue helmet’s seal one last check out of habit. Even with her suit’s armour - arranged defensively, to ward off stray shots and keep her functional and mobile, not go on the offensive - she was a slight figure among the commandos and the krogan, slightly out of proportion to the bulk of the drone hanger on her back, taking the place of a heavy weapon. She ducked nervously in reply to Lysia’s contact, with a fleeting smile beneath her faceplate - which unlike the others was clear, for the high visibility a pilot needed - and loaded up her sidearm and rifle.
“Seventy seconds,” Tahlia announced, standing by the cargo bay’s main console near the elevator. “Equalising for offload.” A blue glow in the air around the team and the main ramp marked the activation of an atmosphere field, within which the air began to shimmer with heat as it matched what the conditions would be on the ground; Tahlia was well clear, although she was wearing a sealed skinsuit as a precaution. Vanguard’s atmospheric drive, muted by the hull and insulation, increased the pitch of its growl as Saphne, next most experience pilot to Rahi herself, took them deeper down through the tempestuous atmosphere, and the stillness of space was slowly replaced by the slight shifts in gravity as the gale-force winds blew the ship this way and that, and the intertial compensators fought back.
“Mech programs running clean,” Tahlia added, raising her voice slightly to be heard. The LOKIs had been loaded onto a wheeled cargo hauler, with its VI pre-programmed for the mission parameters and slaved to Rahi’s omni-tool in an emergency. The six wheels, individually articulated, would be a faster and surer match for whatever rough interiors they might find in the old tunnels than the mechs’ famously average cerebral processors, and folded up and stowed they would be far less of an unwelcome distraction for the team than blundering about under their own power.
“Landing site reads unoccupied and clear,” Rahi reported to Nyx, following the readings from the ship’s helm on her in-helmet display.
“In ten,” Tahlia announced. “Seven... five... three, two, one-” the ramp began to open, admitting a swirl of dust and baleful grey light “-go!”
On her word the thump of the ship landing came through the deckplates, and the ramp finished swinging down to crunch into the grit-covered loading platform. The veterans wasted no time; Rahi jogged along in their wake, glancing left and right as she emerged to supplement her suit’s sensors with first-hand observation - not that that counted for much, with a dust storm in progress - and keeping the LOKI hauler in her peripheral vision as it rolled along on her flank, like an obedient pack animal.
“Ramp clear!” she informed her crew over the comms, and a moment later the ramp rose back into the underbelly of the frigate, which lifted back off with a roar of ascent thrusters.
With a last look at the rising silhouette, Rahi followed the team toward the shelter of the loading dock. The fighters had secured the area as planned and were on guard, leaving her to crouch by the worn-looking antenna base and patch one of their overrides onto its frame.
“Signal good,” she reported. “Strength... three even.” Not ideal, but about what they were expecting, given the length of time the hardware here had gone without maintenance. It would be enough to boost a signal through from the ground to Vanguard, although Nyx’s prediction was also proven true - the interior comms lines, if they had ever been laid out with much diligence to begin with, had suffered into virtual uselessness through age and neglect, so it would be the drones acting as their lifeline to the surface.
“Launching sparrows and gulls,” she announced, following the agreed-upon plan. A panel on the back-mounted unit opened to release half a dozen vaguely disc-shaped units, which hovered up into the shadows near the ceiling and moved ahead. The sparrows, fast, flighty machines, would begin mapping and scouting in a search grid around them, keeping quiet and unobtrusive, while the two long-range gulls would watch each other’s backs as they cautiously ventured along the team’s expected line of travel, making sure the route ahead was where the schematics said it should be. The remaining drones, the hawks, stayed put for now - with luck, the combat-oriented sensor units wouldn’t see any action this time round.
"Yeah, I know." Nyxeya grinned under her helmet when Lysia announced ready. That lizardwoman. The commando readied her barrier. The carnifex was attached to her suit, the biotic amplifier on top of the gun was loaded and double-checked, she knew her equipment. She nodded at Rahi and Vorano and listened to the intercom as they approached the landing zone.
She held onto a handle and raised the other arm for attention. When the ramp opened and the actual environment became apparent, she let out a sigh. what a shithole this place was. "Attention everyone! And... GO!" She announced over the intercom when the ramp was clear.
Nyx was the fist to jump of the ramp, her boots finding grip on hard-baked surface of Pania. Her helmet HUD was giving hazard announcements and high temperature readings. She hurried up the ramp to get into the cover of the loading dock area. In there the wind was no issue, although dust and sand has accumulated in all corners. The equapment that was still there was rusty and looked damaged. Amidst old cranes and a broken conveyor belt parked the carrier with the mechas, covered by an energy shield.
"Group, scramble!" She waved her hand to assemble her gang. Rahi was already ahead of the plan and was launching recon drones "Listen. Up there is the old office wing." She pointed up a small stair where some windows overlooked the dock. "We will attempt to enter there and through the service airlocks. I don't want to crawl through the conveyor if I don't have to. We will leave the mechas as the are for now."
Neyxeya walked up to the airlock. The pad was dead and the door didn't move. She had the impression, Vorano would have liked to just shoot the door open but instead she opened her omnitool and ordered one of the LOKIs over. The mecha unfolded itself and walke up the stair with it's typical, slightly awkward gait. With the help of Rahi she hooked it up to an emergency power plug and the door access pad came to life. With her omnitool she unlocked it and the door slid open.
Inside the office it was dark, only dimly lit through extremely dirty windows. It seemed to be completely empty, cleaned out when the site was left. only some random chairs, a table with one leg missing and junk and papers were visible. To their right, a long dark corridor led deeper into the facility. No sgn of life or activity. This place was dead as a graveyard, Nyx thought.
"Alright, everyone inside so we can close the door again. Rahi, your drones..." One of the small drones had, as if being curious on its own, already started to map and measure the rooms beyond.
Halon was typing away at a console on one of the desks in the admin wing of the complex, dust and grime wearing away on his armor with the heat causing sweat to fall off his face and onto the floor. his pistol lay in a chair. and his helmet gathering dust as it lay on the table next to him with the illuminating glow of the console. it displayed data of hideouts and patrol locations of the pirates.
suddenly his omni tool lit up like a bright flash light, alerting him others were nearby, clicking it off he looked outside the dusty window and spotted a ship landing, he didn't recognize any of the markings. "could they be more pirates, maybe mercs?". he looked back to the console and used his omni tool to gather the rest of the data and shut it off. looking back to the ship he saw what looked like heavily armed individuals. "not good" he whispered to himself, getting on his comm he touched his ear piece. "Naomi what the hell is this. i thought no other pirates were going to touch down." "there aren't supposed be any" replied a female voice. "well im staring out at some now i think, a krogan and a few others, but i cant make out who they are." "halon" interrupted a male voice, gruff and stern. "what is it colonel?" he asked. "we don't have any information right now to verify who they are." "your joking right?" asked halon. "not this time, we can only assume they are hostile by what your feed is showing. stay out of sight for the time being, if one of them is alone make sure to interrogate them for info." said the colonel. "your telling me i was sent in on this op without proper Intel?" he asked annoyed. "no, we were not expecting visitors" replied naomi. "halon just get the job done" he said as the comm cut off.
Halon looked back out the window and saw they were walking into the compound, looking down into the entrance he saw a few of them heading up. "shit" he said heading back towards the desk, putting on his helmet. he hid the small console under a chair and looked back to the door hearing the footsteps. "too many to fight at once" he said to himself in his head. he hastily slid his way down the corridor, with only the dark and his senses to rely on. for the time being. finding a good spot he hid behind a wall which had a view of the room all the way down the hall. he heard the door slide open as he peeked around the corner, too dark to see but he couldn't risk using anything. hearing voices he slowly reached for his pistol on his side but felt nothing, swinging behind the corner he moved his hands around his waist frantically. "where the hell is?....oh crap" he whispered looking back around. "i left it in there"
